Chris Bevolo to speak at “The Power of Impressions” conference exploring customer service in healthcare

Monday, December 31st, 2007

As a presenter at “The Power of Impressions” 2008 Conference, Chris Bevolo, partner and director of client strategy at healthcare branding firm GeigerBevolo, Inc., will offer a thought-provoking look at new sources influencing how patients choose their care. Held March 26-28 in Dallas, the annual conference is hosted by The Beryl Institute, an organization dedicated to improving customer service in healthcare by defining best practices around all touch points in the continuum of a consumer’s healthcare experience.

According to Bevolo, consumer-driven healthcare continues to spread, and how consumers make healthcare decisions is changing. “As consumers are asked to spend more of their own money to receive care, they will consider the entire spectrum of value, from access and expertise to service, convenience, and price. As a result, they are turning to new sources for help.”

He adds, “Organizations such as information providers, health and wellness firms, employers, and patient brokers have the potential to have great influence with consumers when it comes to healthcare decisions. And those responsible for marketing and branding at healthcare provider organizations must understand how to consider these audiences in their strategies.”

Bevolo’s presentation will draw from “Outside Influencers: Who’s guiding your patients and why should you care?” a recently published white paper. The paper and presentation examine these emerging influencers, why are they important, what impact are they having now and could have in the future, and ideas for monitoring and potentially “influencing the influencers.”

GeigerBevolo has gained a national reputation as thought leaders in healthcare branding. Supporting this position, Bevolo has published a number of articles and papers, served as a judge in local and regional design and marketing competitions, and has been a frequent presenter and featured conference speaker on the topics of innovation, patient experience, branding, strategic design and positioning. Most recently, Bevolo spoke at the annual marketing mini-conference for Benedictine Health System of Duluth, Minn.; at the Illinois Society of Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations’ annual conference; and at the Forum for Healthcare Strategists’ national conference.

In addition to Bevolo, “The Power of Impressions” 2008 Conference will feature speakers from the Ritz-Carlton Leadership Center; Chuck Lauer, author, motivational speaker and former publisher of Modern Healthcare; Wayne Sensor, CEO for Alegent Health; Britt Berrett, CEO for Medical City Dallas; Lynne Cunningham, Studer Group coach; and Kristin Baird, author and principal for Baird Consulting.

The Beryl Institute is the research and educational arm of The Beryl Companies, which for 20 years has been the leading provider of outsourced customer interaction services in healthcare. The conference will be held at the Grand Hyatt DFW in Dallas. For more information about the conference, visit www.theberylinstitute.net/2008.

Zagat’s and the power of prediction

Monday, December 31st, 2007

We called it here first. In a blog post on Sept 3, 2006 that focused on President Bush’s call for “health transparency,” we discussed the challenges the new consumer-driven market poses for providers. The post ended with this postulation: “How long until we see a Zagat’s guide to hospitals and clinics?” Well, apparently the answer was 16 months.

Football and branding

Friday, December 7th, 2007

So I was watching my Vikings destroy the Detroit Lions last weekend, and I saw an ad that has stuck in my craw all week. It was an ad for Miller Lite beer, and it was promoting the fact that Lite had won the top award for “American pilsner” in a European beer tasting contest for four years, the latest having been 2006. The point was that Miller Lite, in a blind taste test, had bested any number of European beers, which are better known for flavor. So here’s my question: who cares?

Bevolo presents Nov. 8 at Benedictine Health System’s annual marketing mini-conference

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Chris Bevolo presents the opening seminar at the annual marketing mini-conference for Benedictine Health System of Duluth, Minn. Bevolo begins the Nov. 8th agenda with a thought-provoking look at alternative audiences in healthcare. Healthcare marketing leaders focus primarily on two audiences — physicians and consumers — who represent the core decision-makers for how and where a patient receives care. Today, however, new audiences are emerging with the potential to disrupt this traditional approach. (more…)

Healthcare pricing: the Wild West

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

How much would you pay for eye surgery? $10,000? $18,000? $24,000? That’s the premise behind a recent StarTribune article, “Health care: You better shop around.” The story’s primary point is that patients are beginning to shop around for better pricing on healthcare procedures, and that providers are responding in numerous ways, from publishing prices on their web site to reducing prices across the board for their services. But let’s consider that starting question in another frame. How much, for example, would you pay for a car? (more…)
